This is where we stayed during our five nights at the park. It’s a nice drive out there from Airlie Beach and you can get some great natural harbour views from the lookout. But hell it’s not all about the food right? This quaint hostel has a tropical beach vibe to it, encouraging young and old to take part in its communal atmosphere. If you have time after visiting Cedar Creek Falls continue on to Conway Beach at the mouth of the Proserpine River.

The beach is directly behind the lovely new playground and between playground and water in true North Queensland style is a crocodile warning sign! The whole waterside walk takes about 45 minutes with a quick drink break mid-way at Abell Point Marina.

Hiking, watersports and wildlife parks are just a few of the options you have available to you.

It is also where you will find Airlie Beach lagoon, playgrounds, shops and restaurants.

... Airlie Beach YHA is right in the heart of town, only walking distance to the beach, swimming lagoon, nightlife and the main shopping strip. Honestly, with these camp kitchens, you won’t need to bring any cooking equipment with you at all.

Tours take off from Airlie Beach offering snorkelling, bareboating,  or exploring the region including world-renowned Whitehaven Beach. This is where you can find direct island transfers to Daydream Island and Hamilton Island. It’s cheaper to book a return ticket which is $36 per adult and $20 per child. Next to the reception area, there is a small games room, with arcade type games, air hockey and those claw type machines.

For those with their own boat and wheels who are basing themselves in Airlie Beach, I’d like to mention two free things to do outside of Airlie Beach that aren’t covered below. Road tripping around Airlie Beach is relaxing and really the only way you are going to see the other smaller communities surrounding Airlie. There is plenty of open, grassy patches to set up a picnic and relax for the day. Every morning at 8 am you can go down by the pool where they have a bird feeding area.

Take Shute Harbour Road (State Road 59) toward Proserpine.

We didn’t dine here, but it’s a popular brunch spot for locals and that says a lot. There really are only two seasons up here – Summer (long) and Winter (short). The gym is only accessible between office hours (8 am to 6 pm) as you will need to get a key from the reception.
