One of the top dive sites in Australia – Julian Rocks is packed full of incredible marine life. Not quite the adrenaline buzz of skydiving but another awesome way to see the bay from a different perspective – if you can time if with the right conditions a hang glide over Tallows Beach is pretty incredible. Shopping – Both thrift stores and beach chic boutiques are sprinkled around and outside of town. About a 2 hour roundtrip from the centre of town start along the beach up to the Pass, then take in some incredible views along the coastal path via Wategos before finishing off at the famous Cape Byron Lighthouse. The Atlantic – If you’ve got money and style, stay at this new-ish boutique hotel. Jump on the morning tour for the best chance to see some of the resident dolphins who usually pop up to say hello! The Arts Factory – Universally beloved by backpackers, this hostel has an onsite pool and offers standard dorm rooms as well as beds in a teepee. The Top Shop – A little outpost on a hill that does killer breakfast burgers and acai bowls. From world famous point breaks to super fun beach breaks and beginner spots, there are waves in Byron that will keep everyone happy! You might even spots some famous faces – with the likes of Wolfmother and Angus and Julia Stone occasionally gracing the streets for some tunes! Honestly, you can’t come to Byron without learning to surf – this place is all about the beach and the waves! Byron Bay, what used to be a small little coastal town is now a thriving hub of activity. 100 Mile Table – You don’t see this one pop up on many other *where to eat in Byron* lists, so let me clue you in on this secret spot. Cheeky Monkeys – a backpacker institution!
And with Byron Bay Accommodation options ranging from five star resorts and private house rentals to hostels, you will always find the perfect place to base yourself as you enjoy your stay. Festivals – Byron Bay has some pretty well known music festivals which you may want to plan your trip around. They have a beautiful open air space across two rooms, a bar, patio, and sidewalk – it’s the kind of place you could easily wile away an afternoon, sitting in the sunshine and chatting with the super friendly staff. Luckily Byron has more than a handful off awesome spots for a cold beer and some dancing on tables – so whether it’s a cheeky drink or an all night bender it’s got you covered; If you’re heading North from Byron Bay the closest big stop is Surfers Paradise, often described as the Miami of Australia. Why not. Whether its by Car, Bus or Limousine you'll find it here. I loved my chia seed porridge laced with warm apple cinnamon goodness. Byron Bay is a bit fab, as I may have already over-emphasised, but one of its best features is its proximity to a whole lot of other fab places. Bay Leaf – This cafe does the best coffee in Byron Bay.
Daytrip to Nimbin – Nimbin is where you go if you want to buy marijuana in any which form (including cookies and cake) or witness the hippie subculture. Treehouse on Belongil – Treehouse is right across from the Belongil Beach parking lot and about a 20 minute walk from the town center, but don’t let the location dissuade you: this is a fantastic lowkey spot to hang in the evening. The second closest airport is the Gold Coast (OOL) which is about 45mins away, again you can grab the Byron Easy Bus from here, which runs multiple times per day. Great coffee (including the coconut cold brew), delicious breakfast dishes (albeit with small-ish portions). Sure, this is a place suffering under the weight of its intense popularity – traffic-choked streets, no car spaces and lengthy cafe queues – but while it might not be what it used to be, it's still pretty special. If you’re a coffee snob with stamina, try the coffee tasting plate containing several of their hit coffee options. Ok first off why should you visit Byron Bay and what makes it so special? Oh and heaps of turtles as well! Surfers Paradise = 93km or 1.5 hours drive, The Beach hotel (aka the Beachie) – right on the beach it’s a great spot for sunset and live bands/DJs, AQ Bar – cheapest drinks in town and great spot to meet other travellers, The Northern – huge range of live bands year round, The Rails – local vibes, greta live bands and firepits in the winter time. Folk – If you’re in need of some instagram fodder, go to Folk. With a vibrant scene of cafés, restaurants, bars, pubs, boutique shopping and galleries, there are so many things to do and something new to discover in this unique town. And BONUS: it’s a great spot to sit with your laptop (spacious long table + plentiful outlets = digital nomad heaven). I tried both the lamb salad and avocado on sourdough and both were incredible. Who doesn’t love free stuff? Dance the night away on the tables! From there it’s Brisbane and Noosa before hitting the main part of Queensland with spots like Rainbow Beach, Fraser Island and the Whitsundays from Airlie Beach.
After a lazy day on the beach you may want to let off some steam and hit the town as the sun goes down. Surfing Siargao Island – Everything You Need To Know! With hammocks hung all over the property, an onsite yoga studio, and free bikes to use, I was pretty much in my element at the Byron Beach Resort. Byron Bay has a great selection of places to stay. But even if you don’t surf I know you’ll fall in love with it too! Head to the beach car park at The Wreck each evening for some awesome sunset drum circle vibes. Main Beach sits right out front (funny that hey?!) AirBnB is becoming incredibly popular in Australia with a huge variety of epic options – from budget double rooms perfect for couple looking to escape dorms for a while right through to boutique, luxury holiday homes.

Jump on a half day surf lesson and give it a go…I might be slightly biased as a surfer myself but I know you’ll have a blast! I loved the flow class I took with Geoff at Ananta Yoga. Cape Byron Walking Track – This 3.7km loop is VERY worth doing. No trip to Byron is complete without completing the Byron lighthouse walk. The closest major international airport to Byron Bay is Brisbane (BNE) which is about 2-3 hours drive depending on the traffic. Balcony does fish, oysters, and cocktails exceedingly well, best enjoyed out on the wraparound balcony of course. It takes you through rainforest, up to the Cape Byron Lighthouse and the eastern-most point of Australia, and back down along the coast.
