If we came again, I would try and get one of the full hook up sites as they appeared to be the most level. Take a hike – but be prepared! Again, a beautiful area, but there are plenty of nearby areas (Abiquiu Lake, Echo Amphitheater Campground, El Vado and Heron Lake State Parks, that are much nicer and1/3 the price. The stone cabins at Phantom Ranch cabins were designed by Fred Harvey's amazing Mary Colter in 1922! Reservations are made through Xanterra via an on-line lottery 15 months in advance.
As part of this project the occupancy at Phantom Ranch has to be reduced, in both guest overnight lodging and the campground in order to drastically lower water and wastewater going into the facility until it is repaired. Layout is ridiculous...“Pull-through” sites are set up, in some cases, for 3 rigs!! Our cabins and dorms do not have phones or televisions, but a pay phone is available approximately ½ mile from Phantom Ranch, at the south end of the Bright Angel Campground (payment by credit card or phone card only). Reservations are first come first serve, they have no idea who is where. Reservation Time.

However, the bathroom/showers closest to the campground are shut down for the winter. In-bound duffels are duffels being taken down to Phantom Ranch.
