The first thing we notice, apart from the carpet of pot holes on the road from all the rain, are all the kangaroos, so many kangaroos, and they have no fear of humans. The closest shopping is at Brooms Head. Hello again! Lots of al fresco dinning, coffee shops, local art. It is also home to some amazing plump oysters which we feasted on for lunch (thank you Graham Nash for the tip). Minnie Water consists of a general store and the surf life saving club. The last two kilometres are dirt road. Did not do much exploring as the weather for perfect for sand, ocean and the beach. The last two kilometres are dirt road.
These are the ones we visited. Between them, there are 65 grassy campsites – many with shade and all just a short walk from the beach. Of the two Sikh temples in Australia, the first was built in Woolgoolga in 1969. North from Woolgoolga we headed to Lake Arragan Campground in Yuraygir National Park. Not much reception available. No breeze through the campsite as well.
Every year in April is a Curry Festival which attracts local food and produce stalls from every nationality as well as lots of curry, then there are Bollywood Markets on the beach twice a month filled with music and free bollywood dancing lessons. There are no toilets in this section and no other facilities, but it is very quiet. The road into the Lake Arragan section is narrow, so may not suit motor homes or large caravans. There are long beaches where you can walk for ages without seeing anyone else.
Apart from its rich multicultural community, it boasts some wonderful beaches and fabulous views along the coast.
Stayed in couple of camp sites - Station Creek and Minnie Waters and had totally different experience.Station Creek is away form the beach (about 20 minutes walk) next to a river. Lake Arragon is a beautiful park just 15 minutes from Brooms Head on the Northern NSW Coast.
$7/vehicle ($28) whereas a 12 month pass for Yuraygir is $22. We went there in January and mozzies and sandflies made this place a nightmare - could be seasonal. Plenty of birdlife, kangaroos grazing at the campsites, fishing in the lake. We didn’t see any for days and then we saw a daddy with his five chicks and two other adults in a cane field. Getting there: Lake Arragan and Red Cliff campgrounds are in the Angourie precinct of Yuraygir National Park. Drinking water is available at the entry to the park.

Sitting watching a fire at night is so special, and very relaxing especially when listening to the sound of the waves on the beach.

We didn’t choose to stay there as it warned the roads in could be rough, but we found they had less pot holes than the road into Lake Arragan. Mountain bike friendly 4WD track through the National Park. However it has a fabulous lagoon.
The Boorkoom Camp ground is there and would be a great place to stay. This campground is divided into two sections - Lake Arragan and Red Cliff. 290 km, 3.5 hours, south of Brisbane. I tried some differnt settings on my camera to capture the flames. And we even caught sight of dolphins jumping right in from of us during our walk on the coastal trail. We were there at low tide so it was shallow but lovely to spend time in, a stingray swam past us.
The Maclean Show Grounds would be a nice place to stay. Camped at Illaroo for 4 nights/5 days. Made a mistake with the fees and the ranger, that comes around to each site was helpful and saved me some money by setting us up with the annual park pass.
We packed up and headed north to Byron Bay. Takes time because there is not one road through the park, you need to drive back to Pacific Hwy and then go south of north to another entrance to the park itself.Looks great for 4wd.
We had some unwanted pests at the camp site. Continue for about 18km and then follow signs for Lake Arragan or Red Cliff campgrounds, both are located on Brooms Head Road about 3km north of Brooms Head.
This is the type of town that makes me love Australia. An endangered species of Emu lives along the coast in these parts and is known to frequent the beach at Minnie Water. Not that we saw many until the 70’s, after that they seem to double in number every year.
Lake Arragan is tucked in behind the beach, the campsites are lake-side.
Visit during Easter to be a part of the century-old annual Maclean Highlands Gathering and Highland Games. Opening hours: Parking is available at Lake Arragan and Red Cliff campgrounds, Facilities: picnic tables, wood barbecues, non-flush toilets, drinking water, trackhead/access point. We will definitely be back to stay there.

Australia’s oldest free Presbyterian church still holds services for the descendants of the early settlers, and there is a large Scottish cairn constructed from rocks from around Australia and Scotland in the Herb Stanford Memorial Park, overlooking the river in Taloumbi Street.
There is also a natural fresh water spring on the beach to rinse off under after a swim.

Yuraygir National Park runs along the coast for 65km making it the longest stretch of undeveloped coast line in New South Wales. The Red Cliff camping area is large and closer to the beach. Here you can discover isolated beaches or just listen to the surf roll over the rocks while watching kangaroos and birds going about their business. Brooms Head, we would definitely come and stay at the caravan park some time, the camp sites are right on the beach front under pine trees, quite idylic.
It has the highest Punjabi Sikh community in rural Australia since the 1940’s when they came to farm bananas. Incredible rock platforms along the coast, beautiful beaches, places to snorkle, walking tracks. We did a lot of 4x4 driving here and enjoyed the experience. Lake Arragan and Red Cliff campgrounds sit side-by-side on the park’s northern coastline. The ranger visits the park every day and collects fees. We are now in Byron Bay, a first for both of us, I can’t wait to tell you all about it. It has the added benifite of keeping the mozzies away.

It has a surf beach and a lagoon. The park is very large, so have time to explore it and find the place for yourself. Then you see huge red cliffs rise up from the beach. I am constantly blown away by these amazing places, just sitting there waiting for us to find them. Lakr Arragan NSW. It was so exciting. (You don't need to include the $ before the cost). Diversity of flora and for a was brilliant my kids enjoyed the day trip and picnic plus a good swim if you have a 4wd you will have a lot of fun.
