They have just been outscoring teams this year and not doing much defence. The biggest game this week in terms of finals calculations is quite clearly the final one as the Sharks play the Warriors. Bunnies will get the victory they deserved last week when they roll the Tigers, who were complete garbage for 73 minutes before performing a miracle. From there it got worse, with my only correct tip being a very lucky Parramatta. Tips: Rabbitohs, Sea Eagles, Panthers, Raiders, Titans, Roosters, Storm, Warriors. Despite a loss to the Storm, the Bunnies seem to be finding form at the right time. The Panthers should have no trouble disposing of the Cowboys, who won’t improve until they get a new coach. Sure, they’ll get smashed up here, but they’re locked into the eight so no harm done. The word is that a number of changes are likely for Brisbane and with David Fifita and Kotoni Staggs still out, the Tigers will get the chocolates. Oops! Right, to hell with all this nonsense about tipping favourites. There’s plenty of back line changes at the Rabbits with Latrell Mitchell suspended and Campbell Graham with a facial fracture. The first step to that is my beautiful Canberra Raiders putting 56 on the hapless Roosters, who will be slow, lethargic and ripe for the picking after having seven days recovery to Canberra’s five and not having to spend three hours in a bus on game day like the NRL has helpfully forced the Raiders to do. Just hypothesising, but that would be one crazy outcome.

Only a fool would tip against the Sydney Roosters at the moment, despite several injuries. Daniel Saifiti will be a big loss for the Knights, as will Latrell Mitchell for the Bunnies.

The Knights and Cowboys put up some good Round 17 wins but face NRL juggernauts in the Roosters and the Storm, who both have troops returning en masse. But I am interested to see how much the Knights attack is impacted by the decision to rest Kalyn Ponga.

If Steve Georgallis ever picks a team in their natural positions, who knows? The only other team in with a chance of playing finals footy are the Tigers, who are also four points back from the Sharks, but a tough contest to open the round against the in-form Rabbitohs might put paid to any idea of a late charge. The Warriors welcome back Kodi Nikorima while the Sharks will be without Andrew Fifita. Keeping Ben Hunt out of the halves is working a treat. Many have been predicting the Storm’s demise for several years, but even though they haven’t looked as sharp this year as previous years, the Titans will be no match for them, especially with Cameron Munster returning. I don’t like the Sharks without Chad Townsend. I almost tipped the Broncos to beat the Tigers, but I just can’t. On the other hand, the Raiders were shocked by the Sharkies and didn’t really find any momentum until George Williams intercepted a pass from Wade Graham and then went on with the job from thereon.

The Panthers are overdue for a loss, though, and will have their only loss this season against the blue and gold hovering over the head. They clearly don’t want AJ winning his second Roar tipping comp in three years.

In a strange new world I’m tipping the Titans to beat the Broncos. Titans to win. The Eels struggled in attack last week without Mitchell Moses and were lucky to hold on against the Knights. Manly will probably be too strong, but I’m tipping the Bulldogs. They’re very physical and love an arm wrestle especially in big games, but they would have to find a higher level of intensity and commitment if they want to beat the Chooks here and they will find that level and provide an upset. The Panthers will continue their winning streak. Last weekend, I settled in for a nice afternoon with the Panthers-supporting wife. They will beat the Warriors on Sunday. This is The Roar’s NRL expert tipping. No way.

Those dreams were crushed when Manly forgot they were playing at Lottoland. Perhaps they have peaked too early or they aren’t showing their hand in the lead up to the finals. It’s boring, I tell you.

Roosters to win. I’m taking Wests Tigers on their defence, but they’ll be pretty wobbly against the Broncos, and the Dragons will do over the Doggies to be within a sniff of the top eight, if you can believe it. Panthers to beat the Eels, who are still staggering around like a drunk at closing time who just wants to go home, get into bed and be left alone till 6pm the next day. I’m nominating the Titans early as everyone’s second favourite team of 2021. Last weekend saw a major shake-up of The Roar’s NRL expert tipping leaderboard, but on paper, Round 10 promises a lot more certainty, with clear-cut favourites in just about all the games. NRL tipping is a dangerous game. I’m not 100 per cent convinced on the Knights.

Now, onto the rest. And the Warriors? I’m surprised by all the tips for Souths by the rest of the expert panel this week. And believe it or not, they’re going to be playing finals football too. It’s hard not to feel sorry for the Warriors. Brisbane have already lost to the Titans once this year, and while the Titans have been improved, they haven’t been that good. The mighty Canberra Raiders will take out their well-justified frustrations on the hapless Dragons by at least 56 points. The Broncos have to win sometime, but I’m not picking them until they do. Meanwhile, they’re running an interesting experiment trying to turn fullbacks into wingers, wingers into centres and centres into five-eighths. That being said, I’ll probably in last again come Sunday night. He may get a run, but he’s no Tommy Turbo. Newcastle are actually being quite smart in resting all their best players against the Roosters. The Rabbitohs looked like world-beaters in the first half against the Storm. A win for the brave Warriors would make the last couple of rounds interesting, while a Sharks victory will seal the final eight beyond doubt.

But I can’t do it this weekend. I’d call this a grand final replay but the Raiders and Roosters are missing so many personnel from last year’s decider that it will only bear a passing resemblance. It’s a messed up world we live in. The round starts off with the grand final re-match at the SCG, with the high-flying Roosters taking on the injury-stricken Raiders, before Friday brings us the Storm against the Titans on the Sunshine Coast, and the Tigers against Brisbane. Billy Walters get a start with Benji Marshall. The Raiders were not quite up to the Roosters last weekend but will have too much for the Dragons. In one of the toughest games of the round I’m predicting the Sharks will beat the Warriors. What an abject bunch they have shown to be. The Bulldogs only win this season has come against the Dragons… but that seems eons ago. The Eels have simply forgotten how to lose and they won’t this weekend.

I’ve got the Sharks to beat NZ as the Warriors farewell a quarter of their starting 13.

That’s pretty much that. With Kieran Foran out, I’m tipping Manly. The Cowboys are a basket case so the Panthers will win.
A golden-point field goal robbed me of my first perfect round for the season last weekend.

Eagles can’t win without Turbo, so home ground doesn’t matta, or matter if you like. Penrith by a cricket score.

The Eels are a really good side, so they win here. They should do it easily against the out-of-sorts Eels who are desperate for a big performance to turn their season back around. Dragons fans are poking their heads out of the trenches this week, with a continuing return to form from their side. I can’t pick the Dogs because they have forgotten how to win.
Hate to say it, but Dragons. Just when life was starting to return to near normal in NSW, there’s nothing like COVID-19 to smack you in the face. I’m tipping the Eels to beat the Sea Eagles but I’m not confident. Wayne Bennett gets a week to catch up on Penrith, Six talking points from the NRL semi-finals, Cameron Smith has earned right to retire on his terms, provided he retires before the grand final, Rabbitohs' second-half riot leads to straight-sets exit for Eels, Parramatta Eels vs South Sydney Rabbitohs: NRL semi-final live scores. The last Manly versus Parra game was a beauty but while the Eels have kept rolling on, the Sea Eagles have been hit by injuries and suspensions.

Firstly, on Friday night, we have a grand final rematch between the Roosters and Raiders, and on Saturday night the Eels are hoping to cause an upset against the high-flying Rabbitohs. Last week I had the highest score for a change, grabbing seven to drag myself off the bottom of our tipping leaderboard. Souths might have lost the game last week against the Storm, but they gained plenty of admirers, including me. Finally, Penrith will absolutely crush the Cowboys. The Knights started the season strong but have struggled to score points in recent weeks. Eels will whomp on the Sea Eagles. First up, the grand final rematch, with both sides having a mounting injury toll, but still putting quality sides out. I’m tipping the Bunnies to win this game. The Sea Eagles are missing key players, especially Tom Trbojevic, but were below par against the Dragons last week. Melbourne over the Cowboys too, because, well… obviously. Storm by plenty. The Tigers are inconsistent, sure, but losing to Brisbane who seem to have no idea what their side will look like on Friday? Many rejoiced following the Broncos’ win last week, but it was only the Bulldogs after all. Anyway, that’s a major digress. Remember to get your tips into the form below by 6pm (AEST) on Thursday to join The Roar’s NRL tipping competition for 2020 and be featured as part of The Crowd’s tips for Round 18. To the Warriors players, on the off chance they are regular readers of The Roar’s NRL tips, you’ve played well and had fun, but now is the time to quietly bow out of the race. The Sharks should beat the Warriors but it won’t be easy. The Eels attack has been a little bit off and Mitch Moses hasn’t looked the same since returning from injury. I claw my way ahead of Scott Pryde and then throw it all away in a round of fruitless upset tips! The Cowboys are bad.

What makes things even more galling is that it royally stuffed my tipping. As I only had five out of eight, I’m now two points behind AJ, with The Crowd splitting us. The Raiders improved last week and were unlucky to lose to the Storm.

Or most average ones. Michael Maguire doesn’t mind pulling out the big moves, not on the dance floor, but on the selection table. Two teams sit in the last chance saloon as Round 18 of the NRL rolls around, and it’s going to be an intriguing week ahead with plenty of other matches between top eight sides.

With their season quite literally on the line, I have to put all my eggs in the Sharky basket. If all Sydney teams need to move, Brisbane might get Magic Round every weekend. The Panthers then play the Eels in a huge battle of the west. Never again!

Kalyn Ponga is being rested after being almost decapitated last round. Last weekend saw a major shake-up of The Roar’s NRL expert tipping leaderboard, but on paper, Round 10 promises a lot more certainty, with clear-cut favourites in just about all the games. I’m taking Souths. A Warriors win wouldn’t blow the hair back but surely the Sharks have too much to play for to let this slip. Canberra and Souths both get absolutely cheated and suffer disgraceful reversals of fortune. Be sure to get your tips in on the form below by 6pm (AEST) this evening, and we will publish the results of The Crowd’s tips before the first game of the round kicks off.
