This...was a huge disappointment and I came away feeling that we had spent a considerable amount of money on a brief afternoon wandering around what appeared to be someone’s once loved garden and farm, now falling sadly into a unkempt and shabby mess. For £15 a head we were treated to a pleasant enough veggie pizza with a choice of 4 toppings and.... well that’s the incredible bit....some overrun polytunnels, a chickenless hen coop, an empty aviary, a few pigs and a pretty shabby garden.
The staff were attentive but the food needs a shake up in standards. Portions were so small that even my six year old was still hungry- and my ten year old ended up eating half of my small portion. We do not take reservations for lunch, please just pop in whenever you fancy!
Overpriced and dreadful presentation. that our expectations would be exceeded by this dinner however they were. Can a gluten free person get a good meal at this restaurant? Wine selection also very good.
They came as purple and yellow sticks but looked as though they had been cut up the day before and were dried out and rubbery.

Jeans are acceptable. All in all a truly wonderful evening and experience. River Cottage rides on the back of its once fame but offers little else in the way of an experience. To add insult to injury we were charged the full price £2.50 (see photo).

We had a brilliant time, my 4yr old and I loved walking around the veggie gardens and seeing what was growing, he particularly enjoyed the wormery and nature pond, while my 2yr old loved watching the pigs digging around and turning over the ground. Dry and tasteless and the size of the bun was not appropriate for kids the burger was less than half the size of the bun! Also it’s a working farm/gardens not a fancy TV set or education centre, which clearly some people from the negative reviews were unrealistically expecting.
We had a lovely chilled afternoon wandering around the great grounds and had some lovely home made pizza, all the staff we came across were friendly and super helpful - what more can you ask for! At the cottage we were offered cider and were told to go kill an hour around the grounds.

We have eaten there on a number of occasions but have also been disappointed to drive up to the kitchen to find a ‘Sorry we are Closed’ notice outside.
